A MH SCALE is one dimension of measurement in an instrument. An example may simply be a TOTAL as in a spelling test or multiple scales in a personality disorder instrument (depression, anxiety, thought disorder etc.). Each scale has at least one associated entry in the MH SCALEGROUP file (#601.86) and an entry in the MH SCORING KEYS file (#601.91).

1	scalegroup id	0;2	POINTER	601.86	AD	This associates a ScaleGroup with this scale. It is a pointer to the SCALEGROUP ID field (#.01) of the MH SCALEGROUP file (#601.86).
2	scale sequence	0;3	NUMERIC			This specifies the order the scale is displayed within the ScaleGroup.
3	scale name	0;4	FREE TEXT			Print Name for the scale, eg. Anxiety, Depression Score, Total.
4	xlabel	0;5	FREE TEXT			Used in graphing, this is the label for a data point on the graph's x axis.
